![[ ]](http://s4.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Midgar (2 sub-boards) Midgar is the main city in Gaia. It's very technologically advanced, due to the Mako Reactors. It consists of an upper plate, or so-called "pizza" atop the eight sectors, which used to be respective cities, but now are mostly slums with decaying earth and no vegetation, due to the Mako Reactors draining the life force around Midgar. On top of the upper plate is the headquarters of Shin-Ra Electric Power Company that controls the whole city. The 'leader' of Midgar, although Shin-Ra introduced a figurehead mayor, was President Shinra, until his death, and then the position was taken by his son Rufus Shinra. The city is destroyed by the Lifestream, and is in ruins. Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0

The village was burnt to the ground by Sephiroth, killing most of its inhabitants. Later however, the Shin-Ra corporation rebuilt the town and populated it with its own employees - covering up the incident. Most of Shin-Ra's Sephiroth clones, waiting for the Reunion, can be found all around the town. There is also a Mako Reactor located nearby Mt. Nibel. Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0
![[ ]](http://s4.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Cosmo Canyon Cosmo Canyon is Red XIII's birth place. It is a pilgrimage site for those who wish to pursue the study of Planet life. The terrorist group "AVALANCHE" was founded in Cosmo Canyon, and Barret, the leader, promised his companions that when Shin-Ra was destroyed he would take them there. For years, Cosmo Canyon was protected by the a tribe of warriors. Nanaki (Red XIII) is the current guardian. Cosmo Canyon was once at war with the Gi Tribe but they were defeated by Nanaki's father Seto. Seto fought against the Gi Tribe, and sacrificed himself, and was turned to stone. Seto continues to watch over Cosmo Canyon as a stone statue.
Notable features in Cosmo Canyon include an observatory created by Bugenhagen, the Cosmo Candle, the guardian fire which always burns, and the Shildra Inn, where they serve a popular drink named after the Cosmo Candle. Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0

![[ ]](http://s4.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Wutai Wutai (ウータイ) is a country occupying a large island off the western-most continent, although the name is primarily used to refer to the only known settlement on the island. Yuffie is the princess of Wutai. Yuffie's father, Godo, led the city in a struggle for dominance against Shin-Ra but lost, and materia was banned in Wutai as a result. When the party first reaches the mountains that must be crossed to reach Wutai, Yuffie steals the party's entire collection of materia and retreats to her hometown, where both she and the Turk Elena are kidnapped by crime boss Don Corneo. Wutai is apparently based upon pre-modern Japan and China, utilizing motifs including a pagoda (where Godo resides) and a large statue of what appears to be Buddha called "Da Chao" and other related figures. However, after Shera caused Cid to abort the launch, the space project stopped receiving attention and funds from the Shin-Ra.
However, once Cloud and his party members went to Rocket Town to get a Huge Materia, the rocket was finally launched, in a desperate attempt to destroy Meteor and get rid of Cloud and his friends in one shot. Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0

The town functions as a resort because it snows year-round. The constant cold temperatures are not due to the location of the town, which is somewhat polar, but actually because of the town's proximity to the Northern Crater, where the planet uses a large amount of Mako to try to heal itself. The remaining portion of Sephiroth's body emerged here after traveling through the Lifestream and became encased in a mako cocoon. Shortly after its construction, Galbadia Garden and Trabia Garden were created on the Galbadian and Trabian continents, respectively. Balamb, however, remains the largest of the Gardens and the main base of the SeeD organization. Specializing in Guardian Force training and para-magic use, Balamb Garden is also the only Garden authorized to conduct the SeeD field exam, which all Garden cadets must pass in order to join the ranks of SeeD. Cadets attending other Gardens must transfer to Balamb in order to complete this final requirement. Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0

They constructed Balamb Garden on the island of Balamb, and Galbadia Garden was built shortly thereafter. The Galbadian installation decided to focus its training program on technological aspects of combat rather than magic. Unlike Balamb Garden which attempts to maintain political independence, Galbadia Garden has long enjoyed a close association with the Galbadian government and its military. ![[ ]](http://s4.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Trabia Garden (6 sub-boards) Twelve years before the start of the game, Cid Kramer and his wife, Edea Kramer founded the Garden organization. They first constructed Balamb Garden on the island of Balamb, followed by Galbadia Garden on the Galbadian continent, and finally Trabia Garden. Trabia is the smallest of the three Gardens, and the most remote, surrounded by snowy mountains and forests. Although Trabia Garden conducts itself more informally than the other Gardens, it fosters within its cadets a sense of family and dedication to the Garden. Although Trabia Garden's motto is "Take Care Of Oneself," the attitude of its members would be better described as "Take Care of Each Other." Moderator: Rikku | 0 | 0

In one of the Laguna flashback sequences, Laguna, Kiros and Ward passed through the Lunatic Pandora. In the flashback sequence, Laguna could change things in the cave-like tunnels inside for the later visit by Squall and his party members.
The Lunatic Pandora consists of two parts: the large crystal pillar inside, with cave-like tunnels that run throughout; and the surrounding case, a large, semi-rectangular structure built around the pillar made of a dark material, most likely metal. It can be assumed that Esthar constructed the case, since the emblem of the nation of Esthar is prominent on the side of the structure, and Esthar soldiers are frequently encountered in the second Laguna dream sequence. Garland created the Genomes to be the holders of the souls, but it was then decided that more energy would be needed to complete the process. As such, Kuja and later Zidane were sent to Gaia to cause as much chaos and destruction as possible to release enough power to allow the souls to be released. The mist that covers the Mist Continent is a by-product of this filtering system, and the mist is pumped from the tree and to the Mist Continent through the roots.

Although Auron could not fulfill this promise himself, he entrusted the task to Kimahri Ronso, who found Yuna in Bevelle and brought her to the island where she grew up with Wakka, Lulu and Chappu.
Besaid is the home base of the Aurochs, one of the six Blitzball teams of Spira. The Crusaders also have a presence in the village, it is they who are charged with guarding the Temple.

Bikanel Island had hosted at least one large city in former times, most likely in the time around the Machina War. As the signs are all in Al Bhed Language, it seems that the former city of Bikanel was already an Al Bhed city. According to Rikku, that city was destroyed by Sin, which is why the Al Bhed were scattered throughout Spira. Prior to Tidus' arrival, Cid has reunited his people and built a new, smaller Al Bhed City, known as Home. As the ruins of the first city have a similar architecture to Zanarkand's, it is most likely that the Desert only exists since after the destruction of the city. Because of their proficiency in the use of machina, it is possible that the Al Bhed were merchants who delivered the Machina Weapons to Bevelle and the civil technical equipment to Zanarkand.
